Point Bonita Photo Diary

August 11, 2014

My Point Bonita photo diary is finally here! This post is long overdue. I always wanted to share my photos from this mini adventure but for some reason, I could never sit myself down to write about it until now.

Everything about Point Bonita was so beautiful and I just happened to stumble upon it through a Google search. I was looking for an adventurous place to explore and have always wanted to visit a lighthouse. They just seem so mysterious and mystical to me, which completely draws me in. Maybe it’s that whole “light in the dark” kind of thing?

Surprisingly, the best part of the trip wasn’t seeing the lighthouse. It was everything that led up to it. The views were amazing and the “hike” up to the lighthouse was a ton of fun. Keep reading to see what I’m talking about!

This is the bridge everyone has to cross if they want to get to the lighthouse. It was terrifying because there is nothing below you but ocean and rock. It also swayed a bit when the winds blew so I was really nervous walking across, but it was worth it!

There’s also a short tunnel you have to walk through to get to the bridge. No lamps, whatsoever, but the sunlight (or what little of it shone through the fog) was enough to light the way to the other side. I don’t think I’ve ever walked through a tunnel, so it was really incredible imagining how it was made through this huge mountain. Call me paranoid, but I was a little scared it could collapse or cave in!

It was extremely foggy that day so I was a little sad that I couldn’t see the ocean as much, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was like this all the time.

If you love to sightsee and want to get in tune with nature, you have to visit Point Bonita, especially if you’re from the Bay! It’s just a little bit north of the Golden Gate Bridge in Sausalito. I know for a fact that my photos don’t do it justice, and the fog robbed me of an even better sightseeing experience, so I’ll definitely be going back one day.

OOTD | Shades of Spring

April 15, 2014

California has seen very little rain this year, but for some reason, this winter felt like forever. When some spring sun finally appeared, Kathy and I took full advantage of the warm weather. We went to Santana Row for some lunch, shopping, and much-needed girl time.

While on the Row, we decided to look for this very infamous wall. I don’t know anything about this wall, aside from the fact that it looks really pretty. It’s so alluring and elegant. I love the colors and the vintage window frames. It was definitely a little bit hard to find because it was hidden away in an alley, but that just goes to show you that you can find some of the most beautiful things in the most unexpected places. If you haven’t seen the wall yet, I dare you to go find it!

When I was a teenager, I would dress up to go to the mall because it really was the only time I could do so. Now that I’m a little bit older and a tad bit lazier, I’ve realized shopping is one of those occasions where I should not be dressing up. Who wants to remove tons of layers over and over again when trying on clothes? It’s just such a hassle. I love clothes but the whole process of (physical, not online) shopping can be so tiring. On days like this, I just like to throw on a pair of comfy bottoms and an easy top.

This is my first official post since I’ve moved on to year two of this blog. It’s also my first “outfit of the day” entry. I want to post more often so I can document more of my “adventures” and my life, so I hope you like these more laid-back posts. And don’t worry, I’ll still be doing tons of fashion diary entries! Talk to you all soon!

Whole Body’s “10 Days of Beauty” Media Preview Event

February 7, 2014

Last Friday, I had the pleasure of attending the “10 Days of Beauty” Media Preview event hosted by The Salon at Whole Body in Campbell, CA. (That was a bit of a mouthful!) Prior to this event, I had no idea Whole Foods stores had a dedicated section just for beauty products, let alone an entire salon! Turns out, this salon is the only one in the country, so I felt really special to get to attend their event and check out their salon.

I was enjoying myself way too much to pull out my camera, so I didn’t get that many pictures. Luckily, my friend, Samantha, got some really good snaps and I’m excited to share them with you.

The Salon was beautiful! A partition made of antique window panes separated the salon from the rest of the store for a cozy, but open, atmosphere. They also had the back wall completely covered in real moss. I had to touch it to believe it. The funny thing is, when I turned around to feel the moss for myself, I completely missed the sign right in front of me that read, “No Hands.” My friend and I got a good laugh out of that one. Hence, the photo above.

The team at Whole Foods sure know how to treat a girl to a good day! There was a hair and nail bar for some quick pampering and an abundance of wine and food. We could also get our face scanned by a VISIA machine, which I was all about up until they told me I had to take off my makeup. (I’ll be honest, girl was not down for that!) The VISIA is basically this really cool machine that analyzes your face and tells you the good and bad of it, but we only care about the bad, right?

For my manicure, I chose Zoya’s Sam, the dark red wine color you see above on left. I loved my manicure! It was definitely a no-guilt experience because everything used at The Salon is green and toxin-free. Safe for your hands and safe for the environment. I loved that I wasn’t adding more damage to my nails. I’m definitely going back when I need a good pampering!

I couldn’t leave the store without buying this body scrub because it was amazing! Before we got our manicures, we washed our hands with this scrub and I just loved it. It left my hands feeling really soft and smooth. Each jar is actually individually made in the store. Talk about fresh. I even got a few jars for my friends!

I also left the event with a very generous gift from the Whole Foods team. When I got home and opened my swag bag, I was in shock at all the amazing products I received. I’ve tried a few of these products within this past week, but I especially love Dr. Hauschka’s Cleansing Milk cleanser. It’s made the process of removing makeup actually enjoyable.

I hope you liked this tiny glimpse into the event I attended and if you live in the area, definitely stop by The Salon at Whole Body at least once in your life. Their “10 Days of Beauty” actually started today and will run until February 16.

I can’t end this blog post without giving another thanks to Beth and the Whole Foods Northern California team for having me. I had the best time! Thank you for being so welcoming and friendly.

BeautyCon 2013

September 2, 2013

For those of you in the US… Happy Labor Day! I hope you’re all doing something fun. It kind of crept up on me so unfortunately, I didn’t have anything special planned. It’s all good though, because I finally had the time to put everything I have from BeautyCon together to share with you all. BeautyCon was such a unique experience. I’m so glad I was able to make the trip down to LA and I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Everything about BeautyCon was hectic! It was just such a huge rush of adrenaline trying to meet everyone and make it to all the panels, which was pretty much impossible. I think Karen and I took the “let’s just wing it” approach and it turned out pretty well for us actually. There were just so many things to do and see. I could literally spend hours on hours talking about it. You can only imagine how hard it is for me to condense everything into a blog post right now, so apologies if I end up being all over the place! You can check out my vid below if you’re not in the reading mood.

We didn’t really know what to expect from the event when we planned on going. We assumed it would mostly consist of speaking sessions. This was already interesting to me because I could listen to successful bloggers/vloggers talk about their experiences. But along with the panels, there were so many things to do and all for free! There were four floors and each floor had something different to do.  There were freebies, photobooths, free food/drinks and so much more. Amy Pham was DJ’ing on The Platform’s floor. On other floors, you could get your nails done, hair braided, makeup done. There was a rooftop lounge that overlooked Hollywood. And I’m sure there were so many things I didn’t get a chance to see or experience.

The best part about BeautyCon was, of course, being able to meet some of my favorite bloggers/vloggers in fashion and beauty. I think that was just such a surreal moment. I had only seen these people on a computer screen. Being able to meet so many of my fashion idols in person, all at once, was pretty overwhelming, especially when meeting a “legend” like Wendy. I was definitely fangirling.

Anyway, I’ll end this post here because if I keep going, it will take me days to write! If you have any questions for me about BeautyCon, feel free to leave a comment below and I’ll get back to you!

Fashion Diaries | Closer to My Dreams

July 7, 2013

For all the USA folks, I hope you had a great July 4th holiday! Although I didn’t get to catch any fireworks shows, I had an amazing day with great company. Karen and I decided to get our second tattoos together on this day so we headed to Berkeley, CA with Leo after finding the perfect parlor. We also managed to squeeze in time for shopping and took a short visit to Indian Rock Park. Watch my vlog below to get a peak into what my tattoo process was like. There’s also a short video lookbook at the end featuring this outfit for those of you who prefer live action visuals!

There’s no doubt that this summer has been quite a scorcher in California. For July 4th, I went for an ethereal look to fight the heat. The loose crop top and lightly colored shorts provided maximum comfort. I didn’t expect these two pieces to work out together as well as they did, but the combination actually brings out a romper-like silhouette, making it a pretty unique look. It also makes my legs look longer, which is always a plus!

And finally, to add more fun to my outfit, I topped it off with a flower crown. The whole outfit just made me feel like a fairy!

I spent this past Saturday in SF unintentionally hiking the Lands End trail. I had plans to visit the labyrinth but had no idea it was such a hike, so I was definitely not dressed appropriately. However, this may be my favorite look of the summer thus far. I wore a long crochet top, which functions as a dress especially with the hidden high-waisted shorts. I think this look is reminiscent of  the 1960’s baby doll dress with the top’s short length and shape. I also don’t mind how it lengthens my legs and adds some height to my short stature.

I also have another video lookbook with some footage from the tiny beach I happily stumbled upon at Lands End. Hope you enjoy! I had a lot of fun putting this together.

A couple of my recent looks have mimicked the 60’s vibe, so it will be interesting to see what direction in style I’m heading towards now. One great thing about this blog is being able to keep track of how my personal style is evolving. I think fashion is more than just putting articles of clothing together. I see it as an expression of our personalities and who we are, so once I see a style change, I’m waiting to see what growth or life changes will come! And that’s just one of the reasons why I love fashion. Why waste an opportunity to express yourself to the world and show who you are?

Always Tea Time

May 20, 2013

“Yes, that’s it,” said the Hatter with a sigh: “it’s always tea-time…”

Alice in Wonderland was the movie that left me with dreams of magical tea parties as a girl. Now all grown up, I finally got to have my own tea party when I visited Lovejoy’s Tea Room this past weekend to celebrate Kathy’s birthday. Three of us headed to  SF for some much needed girl time and R&R. It was just the quaintest little place, so naturally, I felt like I had to capture every object in the room with my camera.

It was a really fun experience and I’d definitely do it again! I chose the “Me Tea” option and ordered the smoked turkey with Dijon mustard sandwich, fresh fruit, and apricot flavored black tea. The tea was my favorite! If you plan on going, I would suggest eating something before or after. This was my first meal of the day and I was still hungry by the end of it!

We visited Lovejoy’s antique store across the street and squeezed in a bit of thrift shopping after our tea party. Keep scrolling to see my monochrome outfit of the day and more fun pictures from Lovejoy’s!

I love tea parties, but what about you? Would you ever visit a tea room?

College for the Rest of My Life

April 14, 2013

I was in SF again this past Saturday visiting friends, meeting new friends, attending the Cherry Blossom Festival, and living life like college all over again. After being delayed by some minor car trouble, I finally met up with everyone at Christine’s in the early afternoon. We then headed over to a friend’s house in Pac Heights, who had an amazing deck and backyard view.

We played some good ol’ beer pong and flip cup on the sun-covered deck before heading over to the festival. It really made me miss those carefree college days! I’ve always dreaded any idea of moving to the city but after having days like this, moving to SF doesn’t seem so bad at all.. I never thought I’d catch myself saying that. Although, the all too often cold weather doesn’t really follow my no-pants rule.

The festival wasn’t too memorable but it was definitely nice to be out and about. After spending about an hour there, we headed back to the house to enjoy some more beer. Here are some pictures from that day including close-ups of what I wore at the end, all taken by Christine. (Sorry about the photo-heavy post, I couldn’t choose which ones to take out!)

His Hand-Me-Down’s

April 7, 2013

I spent my entire Saturday with my really good friend, Kathy. We started off our day by going to the De Anza Flea Market in Cupertino. I’ve really missed going to outdoor fairs and markets, so I thought it would be fun to check this one out. I didn’t realize how big it really was. Kathy and I walked about half the lot, got really hungry, and then went to lunch.

The De Anza Flea Market doesn’t really compare to some of the other fairs I’ve been to, but I was able to pick out a few items that I really liked. Keep reading to see what I bought and what other things caught my eye.

Don’t mind me. Just trying to find the perfect sale!

IMG_20130406_125141Beware of alligators.
IMG_20130406_131010My inner 90’s gamer was too excited to see these.

I ended up getting two dreamcatchers ($9) and this string of skull beads (only $3), which I’ll be turning into a bracelet. I love dreamcatchers and I’ve been wanting to hang some up in my room, so these were perfect. As for the skull bracelet, I’ve been seeing them everywhere and they’ve been growing on me, so I gave in to the hype.

And off to lunch! The key to my heart at the moment? Korean tofu stew. I highly recommend Myung Dong Tofu Cabin. It’s so delicious!IMG_20130406_140425IMG_20130406_140746

Kathy and I ended our day at a gorgeous flower field, which I’ll be sharing in a later post along with more details on what I wore that day, so check back for that!

On Warriors Ground

March 31, 2013

My obsession with the Warriors continues! I went to two games this past week but here are pictures from just this past Saturday’s game. I went with my friend, Eric, and we very luckily snagged some really amazing seats. I decided to make a Warriors poster for fun since I never get to put my arts and crafts skills to use and I actually had a lot of fun doing it. Here’s what that process looked like from start to finish. And keep reading to get all the details about how I wore the Warriors blue and gold in my own way.

Here’s the final product below. It turned out so much better than I thought. I didn’t even realize it until I saw it in this picture. My instagrammed photo was reblogged by the Warriors’ official Tumblr! I was so ecstatic when I saw it.

This was the first time my phone’s photo sphere panorama feature was put to use! Eric took this really amazing picture ’cause I had no idea how to use it. Click the picture to see it in full size. Hello Harrison Barnes!

So finally, onto my outfit! I wanted to wear blue and gold in my own little way, especially since I basically own close to no Warriors gear, aside from a fitted hat that looks kind of ridiculous on me and a $5 shirt I got on the streets outside the game.

I wore an oversized sweater, high-waisted black shorts with a lace cutout, gold accessories, and black heeled booties. I was really excited to wear this sweater because it’s actually my mom’s! I found it while rummaging through her closet and gushed over all of her 80’s attire. Would you believe me if I said I couldn’t fit into some of her clothes?! She was even smaller than I was back in the day! I couldn’t even believe it.

Here are some more detailed pictures of what I wore. Hope you’ll be patient with me while I try to improve my photos!

Funny story with this necklace… I was trying it on in the store and while I was taking it off, all the little rings fell to the floor. The cashier was not pleased, to say the least. I then proceeded to pick up each individual piece with a long line of other customers behind me.

I think cut-outs on any type of clothing adds so much more interest, so I loved these shorts when I saw them and I think where the crochet patch is placed on these shorts is just about perfect. I kind of took a risk wearing these because the weather predicted rain, but I’ve been absolutely hating wearing pants. Luckily, I was only stuck in the rain for a few minutes!

And lastly, I just really want to thank you and all my friends for your support on my blog! I was so nervous and hesitant to really put this out there, but I’m so grateful and appreciative of all the positive feedback I’ve received. If you want to leave me any comments, suggestions, or want to see certain blog posts, let me know! You can click on this post to leave a comment or visit my Contact page.
