Last week, I was lucky enough to attend Michelle Phan’s EM Cosmetics rebirth party and left with a collection of her new products, which included her amazing Infinite Lip Clouds and Illustrative Eyeliners. I’ve been loving the Lip Clouds. They are extremely light and feel great on the lips, not drying at all. I wanted to give you a sneak peek at the colors so here’s a video and some photos of the lip colors!
A tutorial on how I fill my brows and transform myself from an alien to an actual human being.
In this video, I share four casual spring outfits with you. I hope you enjoy watching it! It’s very meaningful to me. I’ve been sitting on this idea for over a year and finally had the time to put it together. The beginning also signifies this current point in my life where I finally started to make my own decisions and doing what I want to.
A starry dutch braid hairstyle, a unique take on a low-key look.
I started wearing makeup when I was about twelve years old. I had no idea what I was doing, of course. My mother never wore makeup so everything I knew came from what I saw on TV and in magazines. YouTube didn’t exist then.
An eyeliner pencil was my first makeup purchase. (Eyeliner will forever have a special place in my heart because of this.) I wore it on just my lower waterline for years. It was not a good look.
As mentioned in my last post, I had put together a winter lookbook video featuring some holiday party outfits. Two weeks after I posted it on my YouTube channel, I’m now finally posting the video on my blog. Why the delay? For no other reason than… I just didn’t have the time to sit down and write. It’s been a tough season, trying to balance work, friendships and family, and much needed me time. But that’s a story for another blog post. I’m keeping this one short and sweet.
I really hope you enjoy this video. It’s my new favorite, and I’m excited to explore, evolve, and share my personal style through each new lookbook. (Outfit and video details below.)
I’ll be honest. This post has been long overdue. I meant to post this last year but was holding off until I could couple the video with some photos of my trip to the east coast. I looked through my photos several times, but it was overwhelming and it made me nostalgic, so maybe I’ll give those photos its own post in the future. Maybe.
Anyway, I explain in the video that my Birkenstocks were the only pair of shoes I brought with me during my week-long tour up and down the east coast of the US and Canada. I loved them. They were comfortable, versatile, and surprisingly, very easy to style so I decided to recreate the outfits to show you how I styled my Birkenstocks. I can understand why some people hate them, but they’re really not that ugly. Maybe this lookbook will change your opinion of them? Just a teeny tiny bit?
By the way, I don’t go into detail about how difficult it was to find Birks in my size in stores. If you have small feet like me, you can probably find your size on Amazon. I got my Birks here in the color taupe.
WALK THE MOON’s “Shut Up and Dance” is contagious. The first time I heard the song on the radio, I knew I had to find it and add it to my playlist immediately. It would become the soundtrack to my summer and once I find a song I love, it goes on repeat for a couple days. Slowly, the idea for this video started to form. The concept is nothing new, but I wanted to take my own spin on it.
This isn’t a song review, but I have to share why this one resonated with me so much, and I hope you can find it relatable. It evokes the happiest of emotions for me and captures the kind of joy and freedom that comes with summer. It reminds me that no matter what situation I’m in (happy, shitty, or otherwise), I need to take a moment to just enjoy life for what it is. So whatever down you may be going through, just stop, take a moment, and come dance with me! And if you’re at an all-time high, even better.
I will admit I had a lot of insecurities while filming and editing this video. Throughout most of the process, I was doubting the idea I was once so excited about. To be honest, I was afraid of the responses I’d get. I kept asking myself the same questions: “Will I look stupid? What if my dancing looks awkward or tacky? Are my outfits good enough? What if it doesn’t resonate with people?” It wasn’t until midway through editing that I told myself, “shut up and dance! Just go with it!” The irony, right? I was forgetting the very message I wanted to send.
I don’t want to downplay the fashion aspect of the video, but right now, I want to highlight a different story. This video evolved into more than a summer lookbook for me. It led me down a path where I could learn to feel more comfortable in my own skin. It’s something I’ve struggled with a lot. I’m sure it’s something we’ve all struggled with. Growing up, I’ve always felt the pressure to be a certain way and measure up to someone else’s standards. I’m finally at a point in my life where I want to measure up to my own standards.
We’re all different. Let’s accept it! This video is my way of saying, “who cares? Don’t over think it. Just shut up and come dance with me!” This video will always be special to me for these reasons, so I hope you guys like it!
A few months ago, I was asked to review the Personal Microderm device, an at-home replacement for microdermabrasion treatments. I was a bit hesitant because I had never reviewed a sponsored product before. I didn’t know what it would mean for the direction of my blog. (But that’s a whole ‘nother story!) After doing some research, I couldn’t resist. I became excited at the opportunity to give the PMD a try.
I’ve been using the PMD for about a month now and have seen improvements in the texture of my skin. But the main reason I wanted to try the PMD? To get rid of all my scars and blemishes that were a result of my constant need to pick at my zits! Horrible, I know… but I just can’t help it! I’ve been looking for a solution that will get rid of my discoloration and even out my skin tone, so I’m excited to see how much further the PMD can help my skin improve. And of course, I’ll share my progress here on the blog.
Wanna know what else I thought of the PMD? Check out my review video below, where I’ll also show you how I use the PMD and give you a mini-lesson on microdermabrasion. If you have any questions I didn’t answer about the PMD, leave me a comment!
If you want to give the PMD a try, feel free to use discount code “andsaltwater” to get 25% off your PMD on their website. ‘Til next time!
FTC: The video was sponsored but all opinions are my own!
I’m so behind on posts, it’s not even funny. But, this does mean that I’ll have lots of (great) posts coming up, like this one for instance! Back in August, my friend Eric Bravo and I teamed up to do a shoot together for the first time. I would say it was pretty experimental.
I had been following photographer Chuck Lang on Instagram and shared this with Eric, so that’s the kind of vibe we were going for. We improvised a lot and played around with the different environments around us. I have to say, the photos turned out amazing! Eric understood the serene tone I was looking for and got some really amazing shots.
Below are just some of my favorites from the shoot. (The last one is my absolute fave!) These photos are a little different from my usual fashion and outfit posts, but I really wanted to try something different and more editorial-like, so I hope you can vibe with me on these.
JYJZ top, Forever 21 shorts, Forever 21 earrings
I saved the best for last, wouldn’t you agree? How Eric got this shot… I have no idea, but everything aligned perfectly for this one in my opinion. Just look at that sunset!
